,

Yesterday, we held our first Quarterly Membership Meeting of the season. Women checked in from Brazil, Jamaica, Canada, Mexico, and all across the US. Black women, across the diaspora, united by a global movement, choosing themselves. Not in service of anyone else's cause, but in service of their own lives, their own health, their own liberation.

That is GirlTREK. Not a walking club. Not a fitness program. The walk is the cause. Saving Black women's lives is the politics. And in a moment when we know it feels like the systems around us are failing, our answer is not to carry more for others. It's to organize ourselves. To build our own systems of support. To walk, talk, and solve our own problems.

Yesterday, we came with the tools to do exactly that. We opened with big news, The GirlTREK Underground, our new app, is available for everyone to download. Right now. Today.

The Underground app is officially open.

This is the answer to the most asked question in GirlTREK history: Is there someone walking near me? Yes. There is. And now you can find her. Track your walks. Earn your streaks. Connect with your crews every single day.

DOWNLOAD THE APP

When you download, you're automatically added to the Global Crew. To connect locally to women near you, search "Care Village + your region" — Care Village East, West, South, Midwest — and join your regional crew. You can also browse the directory to find crews walking near you. Or even better — start your own crew for your friends, your family, your block.

Need help finding your way around? Check out our App Tutorial videos on YouTube.

Walk this Saturday, April 4.

“Sisterhood Saturday” is our weekly solidarity walk. The day we all show up together so no woman walks alone. Log your walk in the app, run up the solidarity counter, and be part of the signal: we are here, and we are walking together.

Then keep going. See if you can get your first streak week. The app tracks everything for you!

May we suggest queuing up our playlist from the membership meeting? The chat was hot from it, and it’s the perfect soundtrack for your first Sisterhood Saturday walk of the season. Listen on Spotify here.

FROM THE MEETING
The meeting was all vibes. A deep grounding and a sense of electricity. If you missed it, you can listen to the full recording by going to the Audio section inside the app. Yes! Not only does The Underground track your walks and let you organize crews, but it's also a walkie-talkie that lets us talk to each other, live, and through our audio library. Family, this is huge.

Take a walk and listen to what we shared, or read the recap below. If you attended the meeting yesterday, we’d love for you to fill out our quick survey so we can continue to provide the best experience at future meetings.

We announced a new leadership structure. Co-Founder, Morgan Dixon has transitioned to the GirlTREK Board of Directors after 17 years of extraordinary service — stay connected at @morgantreks and morgantreks@gmail.com. Co-Founder Vanessa Renae was appointed President, and Ayanna Taylor was named Executive Director.

We announced Care Villages — four regional communities (West, Midwest, East, and South), each led by a Regional Manager whose job is to support local activity in your neighborhood, train and support crews and crew leaders, and connect women across the region.

Midwest Care Village | Nyra Govan | midwest@girltrek.org
South Care Village | Chasiti Moncure | south@girltrek.org
East Care Village | Siobhan Ollivierre | east@girltrek.org
West Care Village | Marcie Thomas |  west@girltrek.org

We also introduced our Special Impact Managers — doing the same for their communities. Whether you are a caregiver, a mother, justice impacted, or walking in faith, there is a home and a leader here for you.

Mothers | Keturah Queen | moms@girltrek.org
Justice Impacted | Yolanda Williams | liberation@girltrek.org
Caregivers | Pam Jiner | caregiver@girltrek.org
Faith Based | Cynthia Thompson | faith@girltrek.org

This is just the beginning.

Download the app.

Walk this Saturday.

Keep going.

We'll see you on the pavement.

With love,
The GirlTREK Team
