We Want Power
The Joy & Justice Agenda is our list of demands. Every month, we take one demand and turn it into a declaration. You make that declaration by walking.
This October, We Want Power means Black women having a voice in the decisions that shape our lives. It means knowing our voting rights, helping our neighbors get ready to vote, protecting access to the ballot, and organizing together long after Election Day.
Black women have built civic power for generations. Fannie Lou Hamer, Ella Baker, Septima Clark, and countless women who organized their own blocks showed us that power grows when we share what we know and act together. This month, we walk in their footsteps and carry their work forward. |
We walk for joy. We walk for justice. We want power. |

There is no wrong way to do this. Ask what will keep you walking this month, then choose the challenge built for it.

Sisterhood Saturday |
Every Saturday, we put Black women building civic power at the center of a nationwide walk. We will honor the organizers who came before us, remember the Black Girl Justice League, stand with women taking action now, and walk alongside people protecting our vote.
Walk one Saturday or walk all five. Bring your crew, invite a neighbor, or take your walk wherever you are. |

In Her Footsteps: Whose Legacy Are We Carrying Forward? |
Fannie Lou Hamer's birthday is October 6. We begin the month by honoring her and the everyday Black women who organized their communities and demanded a voice in the decisions affecting their lives. Who taught you what it means to use your power? Walk in her footsteps. |
Remembering Black Girl Justice League |
GirlTREK's Black Girl Justice League brought Black women together to learn about the issues, reach voters, and take action in their communities. This Saturday, we remember the Trekkers and crews who walked to the polls, shared information with neighbors, and helped others exercise their right to vote. Their work shows how civic power grows when we organize together—and what we can carry forward today. |
Reclaiming Our Power: Crew-Led Action in the States |
Across the country, Black women are helping their communities navigate changes to voting access, registration, polling places, and political representation. Stand with the Trekkers who share reliable information, help neighbors make voting plans, and organize locally. Walk for the women protecting their communities' voices. |
Black Voters Matter |
Casting a ballot matters. So does the work that helps our neighbors register, find trustworthy information, reach their polling place, and have their votes counted. Black Voters Matter is a national organization that supports local groups, expands civic engagement, and builds political power in Black communities year-round. Walk with your crew, learn about their work, and ask how you can support it before, during, and after Election Day. |
Power in Every Step: Final Walk and Membership Meeting |
Close the month with a walk that celebrates what we have learned and done together. Where early voting is available, you might walk to the polls; you might help another woman make her voting plan. Then join the membership meeting to celebrate our collective power and talk about how we will carry it forward. |
You Never Walk Alone. |

Dedicate Your Walks to a Powerful Woman in Your Life |
Wherever we are in the country, we can begin with the same question: Whose footsteps am I walking in?
Think of a Black woman who taught you to speak up, organize, vote, lead, or stand beside someone else. Carry her name on your first walk and every walk after it. If you can, tell her what she taught you. Then ask another woman what power means to her. |
