Commemorating the Montgomery Bus Boycott
As the new stewards of Bricklayers Hall in Montgomery, Alabama, Dr. King’s former office and the organizing site of the Montgomery bus boycotts and now GirlTREK’s headquarters, we are proud to commemorate this day, December 20, the anniversary of the boycott’s victory.
We are also proud to honor the next generation of freedom fighters who are keeping this legacy alive.
Through this solidarity spotlight of the Texas NAACP Youth & College Division, we close a year of uplifting partners connected to our joy and justice agenda.

The Texas NAACP Youth and College Division stands with GirlTREK’s 10th Demand: Next Generation Leadership by defying the myth that healing is not the beginning of great work. We believe that preservation is power: to effectively advocate, teach, and lead, we must first honor our own health. Healing is how we sustain the mission and ensure that the next generation of leaders can carry the torch of equality for all marginalized communities.
Our work begins within, equipping young advocates with balance, courage, and compassion to challenge injustice while nurturing themselves and those around them. We understand that to fight for justice, we must also protect the vessels that deliver it.

As we commemorate this historic day we thank the generations that came before us and commit to continuing walking in your footsteps.
